Gas grills are easier to grill outdoors than charcoal or pellet grills. Gas grills are easy to use and can be turned on by pressing a button. They heat up quickly. You can control the heat with knobs, similar to your indoor gas range. There are no need to wait for pellet grills to reach temperature or to burn coals. Cleanup is easy. Use a grill brush to clean up after cooking, and then empty the drip pan once cool.
Our Lab tested over 50 outdoor and indoor grills in the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances Lab. We test how evenly each grill heats up and sears. In addition to evaluating how grills keep flare ups at bay, we also test the ability of grills to cook steak and chicken. We tested almost 1000 pieces of bread, 56 steaks, and 220 pieces chicken. We also evaluate how easy the grills are to use. This includes the size and operation of the knobs and the storage space it provides for tools and ingredients. Here’s a list with the top gas grills that you can purchase in 2021.
Genesis II EX-335 3-Burner Propane Gas Smart Grill
We are always impressed by the Kitchen Appliances Lab’s new smart grill. It is easy to use and performs well. It has high-end features such as a sturdy stainless steel handle, side shelves, side burners, ample storage space and a gauge. There are also two probes that allow you to monitor the internal temperature of your food while it cooks. You can either use the thermometer directly from the control panel or connect it to the Weber app. Additional features include knobs that lighten a flashlight attached to the lid that allows you to grill in the dark.
This grill was the best in all our tests. It produced juicy steaks with great sear marks. The grill also cooked chicken thighs on medium heat with only a few flare-ups.
4-Burner Propane Gas Grill
The NexGrill 4-Burner Propane Gas Grill impressed us, even though it was a lower-priced option. It performed just as well as higher-end grills. The grill can hold 28 burgers! had perfect grill marks. The side burner has stainless steel doors below to keep the propane tank out of view. There is also a warming rack that keeps your buns warm while you cook the burgers. The flame tamers above the frames did a great job preventing flare-ups from erupting and excessive smoke.
Spirit II E-310 3-Burner Propane Gas Grill
The Weber Spirit grill has a porcelain enamelled lid, flavorizer bars (the inverted “V” bars underneath the grates that prevent drippings from the burners and help to prevent flare-ups) and porcelain enamelled cast iron grates. These grates are easy-to-clean and retain heat well. The grill can cook up to 25 burgers simultaneously. Our steaks were perfectly grilled and cooked evenly. The left side table folds down to make it more compact and can also be used as a storage unit. A built-in gauge shows how much gas you have left. Weber also offers the same model with natural gas hookup.
Tru-Infrared 2-Burner Gas Grill
This Char-Broil gas barbecue is an excellent choice for anyone new to grilling. The porcelain-coated cast iron grates are heat resistant and easy to clean. Keep your grilling tools out of reach, as they could scratch the coating. The grill cooked steak quickly and efficiently, while making juicy chicken thighs without any flare-ups.
RoadTrip 285 Stand Up Grill
The Coleman grill has a large cooking area that can be turned on by pressing a button. It is also easy to operate. Cast-iron grates allow for direct and indirect cooking, which reduces flare-ups. It heats up quickly and leaves nice grill marks. Below the grates is a large drip pan that can be washed and stored away. Side tables are sturdy and can be slid in for easy transport. They also fold flat. When rolling the grill, the sturdy legs act as a handle. One-pound propane tanks are used to power the grill.
4-Burner Gas Grill
This model grills a London broil with virtually no flare-ups or smoking. It’s crispy on the outside, but juicy and medium rare inside. Although it is easy to turn on the grill, we found that it heats unevenly. The Kenmore Elite grill is great for cooking for large groups. It has enough space on the grates to hold 32 4-ounce hamburgers.
Flavour Pro 4-Burner Gas Grill
The Char-Griller Flavour Pro has the convenience of gas and the ability to use charcoal or wood pellets if you so desire. It can even be used as a smoker! The grill is sturdy and lightweight, but easy to transport. The grill is easy to assemble thanks to clear instructions and illustrations. Our tests showed that chicken and steak were tender and cooked evenly. The flavour drawer spreads evenly across the cooking surface, making it easy to add coals and spread them out.
